.SHORT TERM...(Tonight through Monday)

It is a rather pleasant afternoon across southeast Wyoming and the
western Nebraska Panhandle with widespread temperatures in the 20s
and lower 30s, except for areas along/north of a line from Lusk to
Alliance on the cold side of the arctic boundary. Strong low-level
warm advection is expected along/east of the Laramie Range tonight
as a mid-level disturbance tracks across northern WY. We are still
looking at low-level CAG-CPR gradients climbing to 60 to 70 meters
after 03z. The models show a broad swath of 55-65 knot flow in the
700-800 millibar layer, and cross sections over the wind corridors
suggest a decent stable layer aloft set up by the WAA. Further, in
house guidance suggests high probabilities of wind gusts exceeding
58 MPH at BRX, especially in the 09z-12z time frame as the ARL-BRX
MSLP gradient approaches 4 mb. Our confidence is sufficient for an
upgrade to a High Wind Warning for ARL/BRX. We expect I-80 between
Laramie and Cheyenne to get pretty strong as well, and with models
showing at least a modest stable layer over the summit we felt the
potential was strong enough to add the southern Laramie Range, and
adjacent foothills to the High Wind Warning. A lull in strong wind
will occur during the day on Sunday as gradients weaken, but think
most areas will remain breezy. Another high wind episode is likely
from late Sunday night through Monday afternoon w/ similar overall
parameters. We issued a High Wind Watch for the wind corridors for
now, but later shifts may need to add CYS if it looks like the low
level inversion will be any weaker on Monday. The GFS/NAM are both
showing 65+ knot flow over CYS with excellent subsidence which are
usually good signals locally. Laramie/Rawlins could see high winds
as well with MAV/MET guidance hinting at 30+ knots over both sites
on Monday. Just not enough confidence right now to add those zones
to the High Wind Watch.

Aside from the threat of strong winds, a warming trend is expected
on Sunday/Monday. This will be especially true for areas along and
east of the Laramie Range as 700 hpa temperatures return to +2C to
+4C by Monday. Highs could even approach 60 F in the vicinity of a
Cheyenne-Wheatland line. Multiple disturbances combined w/ mid and
high level moisture and persistent orographics will yield a period
of light snow in the mountains from late tonight onward, and could
accumulate up to 10 inches through Monday. We felt snow rates will
be low enough to justify not issuing a Winter Weather Adzy. A band
of warm advection snow will likely develop over the high plains on
Sunday night, but potential accumulations are uncertain attm.

.LONG TERM...(Monday night through Saturday)

Orographic snows across the Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges should
pick up in intensity on Monday evening/night behind the fropa.  The
western mtns will be in the favorable left exit region of the upper
jet.  While it will be breezy over southeast WY through the night,
not expecting any wind highlights through mid morning on Tuesday.
Another potential wind event looks to be setting up during the day
on Tuesday as subsidence combines with good llvl mixing and strong
winds aloft.  700 mb winds of 55-65 kts could be mixed down with the
good lapse rates.  It will be cooler on Tuesday, however highs will
still be in the mid 30s to low 40s.  Cold front pushes across areas
to the east of the Laramie Range by Wednesday.  However, surface
pressure falls across the plains during the day will maintain breezy
to windy conditions over southeast WY.  Yet another snow event over
the Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges is looking possible by late
Tuesday night into Wednesday with the upper jet streaming into
western Colorado.  Cooler temps and less wind are in store for
Thursday/Friday.

Mvfr cigs have already visited KRWL this evening, and do think
they'll become more solid through the night as moisture advection
occurs with increased west-southwest flow. Snow and blowing snow
will reduce vsbys near the Snowy & Sierra Madre mountains and
vcnty, including KRWL, tonight and continuing at times through
Sunday. Models keep hinting at fog and/or light snow across the
plains as well, so added in VCSH to most panhandle sites.
Confidence is not very high tho. Windy conditions will prevail for
much of Sunday across southeast Wyoming, with snow becoming more
widespread across the area in the late afternoon and evening.
