The combination of rapidly weakening Tropical Storm Irma across southwest Georgia and strong high pressure to the north brought strong gradient winds to the area. These winds were enhanced by convection. One thunderstorm was able to produce stronger winds at the surface, resulting in a severe thunderstorm wind gust at the Georgetown County Airport.
