.SYNOPSIS...
Nor'Easter off the Jersey coast passes across eastern Long
Island this afternoon. The storm tracks into Northern Maine
tonight, then through the Canadian Maritimes Wednesday and
Thursday. High pressure moves through the region Thursday and
Friday. Another low pressure system may affect the area Friday
night through next weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 14Z, the Nor'Easter is centered just east of the mouth of
the Delaware Bay. Winds gusting to 50 to 60 mph along the Jersey
coast will spread north across the coastal region and have thus
issued a wind advisory (which overlaps some of the Winter
Hazards so not to make a confusing graphic) to highlight this.

Mixed PCPN / Snow Line along the CT coast to NYC as of 14Z.
Don't expect a lot of movement with this and then moves east as
winds switch to NW at low passes across the twin forks.

Snow totals remains unchanged with 18-24 inches across Orange,
Putnam and W Passaic down to 2 to 4 inches across Suffolk County
(already has fallen).

Precipitation changes to all snow before ending this evening,
but becomes light and showery. Dry overnight.

With temperatures falling below freezing tonight, any water
remaining on roadways could freeze, depending on how quickly
winds come down.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY/...
Axis of closed upper low passes tomorrow with isolated to
scattered snow showers possible.

It will remain much below normal, with highs in the upper 20s to
lower 30s.

&&

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
By Wednesday night the powerful Nor'Easter will be moving into
the Canadian maritimes, with strong northwesterly flow developing
on the back side of the system. A secondary low-level trough will
move through the Northeast, providing enough instability and lift
for a few snow showers during the evening. Below normal
temperatures are expected with wind chill values in the single
digits Wednesday night. Below normal temperatures and strong and
gusty winds will continue through Thursday as the upper trough
slowly departs. By Friday, a weak deep layered ridge will pass
through the region, allowing winds to weaken and return to a
southwesterly direction. Warm advection should lead to a 5 to 10
degree overall increase in temperatures, though the values will
still remain below climatological normals. By the weekend, an
upper trough and attendant surface front move through from west to
east with a chance of snow and/or rain. Right now the system
appears to be weak, and uncertainty still exists with the track of
the low and amount of any precipitation that will fall.

.AVIATION /14Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
***HIGH IMPACT WEATHER INTO TONIGHT***

An intensifying storm located along the Delmarva coast this
morning will cross over far eastern Long Island this afternoon
before moving up into Maine tonight. Precip has changed to rain
at KISP, with sleet mixing in at the city terminals and all snow
elsewhere. This transition line will continue to gradually push
northwest during the morning with precipitation eventually
becoming all rain at both KJFK and KGON as well. Elsewhere,
precipitation will remain predominantly snow through the event,
with some sleet mixing in at the remaining city terminals.

Meanwhile, NE winds will continue to increase this morning to
30G40KT right along the coast (KJFK/KLGA/KISP/KBDR/KGON), and
20-25G30-35KT inland.

May have to watch for a brief period of NW winds 40-45kt late
today as precipitation winds down and the low passes by.

Becoming VFR tonight with WNW winds diminishing but still
G25-30KT.

21Z-24Z. Total snowfall up to 10 inches.

KISP TAF Comments: Expect frequent AMD to fine tune weather and
flight category. Winds may be a few kt stronger than forecast

.OUTLOOK FOR 12Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...
.Wednesday...SCT snow showers with brief MVFR or lower conds
possible. NW winds G25-30KT.
.Thursday...VFR. NW winds G20-25KT.
.Friday...VFR.
.Friday night...Chance of snow mainly after midnight, with IFR
conds possible. .Saturday..IFR conditions possible. Chance of
snow, changing to rain by afternoon, then changing back to snow
inland and a rain/snow mix at the coast.

.MARINE...
Nor'Easter tracks across the area waters this afternoon with
storm force wind gusts. Flags therefore remain unchanged. Looks
like the strongest winds will occur in a 3-4 hour period
centered during the late morning hours. Winds then flip to the
north, then northwest during the afternoon. Winds in the mixed
layer quickly drop off with this shift, however there is a
chance that forecast gusts early this afternoon are a little too
low. By evening, gusts subside to gale force, however there's
still a chance that the ocean waters east of Moriches Inlet
could see a gust or two to 50 KT early on. Seas on the ocean
expected to build 15-20 FT with waves up to 10 FT even in Long
Island Sound.

For Wednesday and Wednesday night, a tight pressure gradient remains
over the waters, and gales still look likely at least on the ocean
waters and perhaps the eastern Sound and eastern bays as well. SCA
conditions otherwise for the remaining waters.

Winds slowly subside Thursday into Thursday night as a high pressure
ridge moves closer. SCA conds are likely at least through the
evening hours. A brief period of tranquil conditions follows for
Friday as the ridge shifts through, then a return to SCA conds is
possible on Saturday with the approach of the next system.

.HYDROLOGY...
1.75 to 2 inches of liquid equivalent precipitation is expected
through this evening. The only hydrologic issues area possible
over coastal SE CT/Southern Nassau and most of Suffolk County
where a mi with rain is expected and a change to all rain quite
possible (highly likely S shore of Long Island). Minor flooding
is possible over this area, especially if there is a completer
change over to all rain. Otherwise...no hydrologic problems are
anticipated.

No hydrologic issues are anticipated from Wednesday through
Friday.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
With a storm track now expected to be close to the coast, confidence
is increasing in more widespread moderate coastal flooding for the
region this morning/afternoon high tidal cycle. Surge amounts are
generally 1/4 to 1/2 ft higher than previous forecasts.

Widespread moderate coastal flooding is expected across NY/NJ harbor
and along Western Long Island Sound...and for the Eastern bays of LI.
Generally 1 to 2 ft of inundation is expected here.

Localized major flooding is possible along the most vulnerable
southern bay locales of Western Long Island...with up to 3 ft of
inundation.

Some minor coastal flooding concerns could linger with tonight's
high tide...particularly along southern bays of LI.

The elevated water levels and a longshore sweep of 6 to 10 ft
breaking surf during the morning/afternoon high tide cycle is
expected to result in areas of dune erosion with localized washovers
possible along the Atlantic ocean beachfront. Less significant beach
erosion issues will likely linger into Wednesday due to residual
southerly swells of 6 to 10 ft.
