A slow-moving upper level trough brought several rounds of showers and thunderstorms to portions of eastern New York on July 17. Over 4,000 people lost power in Saratoga County due to strong winds and lightning. Road closures due to flash flooding also occurred in Saratoga County where two to four inches of rain occurred. Large hail was reported in Hamilton County.

AND NORTHEASTERN HERKIMER COUNTIES...

At 736 AM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located
along a line extending from Cranberry Lake to 9 miles southeast of
Wanakena to 9 miles south of Limekiln Lake Campground to 9 miles
northeast of Ohio. Movement was northeast at 35 mph.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail are possible with these
storms.

These storms will be near...
  Limekiln Lake Campground around 750 AM EDT.
  Eighth Lake Campground around 800 AM EDT.
  Raquette Lake and Brown Tract Pond Campground around 805 AM EDT.
  Golden Beach Campground around 810 AM EDT.
  Blue Mountain Lake, Forked Lake Public Campground and Lake Durant
  Campground around 815 AM EDT.

Other locations impacted by these storms include Hasbroucks,
Nehasane, Russian Lake, Eagle Nest, Quaker Beach, Catlin Lake,
Deerland, Herkimer Landing, Caswell Lake and Sabattis.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may
cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

At 1120 AM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located near Forestport, or
11 miles east of Boonville, moving northeast at 30 mph.

Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail are possible with this
storm.
