Deaths and injuries are direct and indirect together, as the offices filed them. Damage is property and crops in the dollars of the year, not adjusted for inflation, and only where an office estimated it.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pocatello ID 851 AM MDT Thu Jun 8 2017 .UPDATE...A few minor tweaks to forecast this morning, based largely on surface winds and temperatures. Strong surface gradient in place this morning with surface trough aligned with edge of IR sat enhancement. Strongest winds south of Snake Plain, where southerly winds tend to be amplified in this type of scenario. Where the winds have been able to downslope into the Snake Plain, temps have been held up. Stronger winds also occurring at higher elevations in the central mtns. Made a few adjustments to temps and winds for today, as well as sky to account for cloud shield moving in behind front. The frontal feature will swing through the state today, and there is some mid level instability and decent moisture especially in northern portions of the forecast area. However, as upper jet shifts into the region, all of East Idaho remains in the region of upper dynamics not favorable for enhancing convection. Will keep dry forecast intact for today and this evening. DMH && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 257 AM MDT Thu Jun 8 2017/ DISCUSSION...A deep upper trough looms over the East Pacific as a deep southerly flow sets up over WA/OR. The leading edge of the clouds is extending into Central Idaho this morning per WV/IR imagery. Models are in fair agreement through the weekend on the progression of the trough and its associated short waves. The initial shortwave will clip our northwestern counties, while an associated weak cold front pushes through late this afternoon. Low PoPs expected with this feature today, but it may generate some breezy conditions through the Snake Plain. Precip chances ramp up through the day Friday as a second wave lifts out of the Pacific trough. As we head into the weekend, an upper low drops into Oregon, and draws in some drier weather over Idaho. This may possibly bring warmer temps for the weekend as well. Models in general are coming into better agreement, but some differences in the distribution of precip emerge as the GFS/ECMWF solutions diverge from one another Monday morning. The GFS solution has the upper low lifting northward along our western border, while the ECMWF favors an eastward trajectory passing right overhead. The ECMWF is particularly heavy with precipitation Monday night/Tuesday morning, while the GFS is trending towards a drier solution. Both models are bringing a drier pattern over East Idaho by next Wednesday. Hinsberger AVIATION...VFR weather continues as trough begins to move into Idaho and southerly winds increase by early afternoon. Dry frontal band expected to pass KBYI near 15Z and KIDA and KPIH near 9/02z. Scattered rain showers on leading edge of trough to move into KSUN and KBYI near 9/12Z, isolated thunderstorms possible Friday afternoon as showers reach KIDA and KPIH 9/22-24Z. RS FIRE WEATHER...A low pressure trough moves inland today with a mostly dry surface front reaching Sun Valley and Burley about 0900 hours, then Idaho Falls about 1800 hours. Isolated thunderstorms are expected between Colbalt/Yellowjacket and Lost Trail Pass. Breezy winds will develop by early afternoon just about everywhere except the far west side down through Stanley, Hailey, Rogerson. There will be a few pockets of afternoon humidity near 14 percent vicinity of Challis, Arco Desert, and Black Pine, otherwise valley locations should run 15 to 20 percent. The trough continues inland on Friday with a chance of rain showers by late morning in the Central Mountains and Southern Sawtooth, and isolated afternoon thunderstorms spreading eastward in the afternoon, then into Montana overnight. Cold air then redevelops a low pressure circulation near the Oregon Coast by Sunday morning and takes it across Idaho on Monday. The track is loosely placed between the Panhandle and Bear Lake. this lets temperatures rebound about 10 degrees on Sunday, then turn 10 to 15 degrees colder Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday through Friday, the trend is to shift the storm track north through the pan handle and Montana leaving the southern half of the state mostly out of the track. RS HYDROLOGY...Another day of warm weather will result in more snowmelt runoff. Flooding continues in the Big Lost and Big Wood Basins in the Central Mountains as well as the Bear River Basin in Bear Lake County. New flooding is expected along the Teton River in Driggs, which currently is bank-full.
