Strengthening high pressure over the Eastern Pacific and strengthening low pressure over the Desert Southwest produced a strong pressure gradient over Central California resulting in a period of gusty winds over the Kern County Mountains and Deserts from the afternoon of the 23rd until the evening of the 24th. Several reports of wind gusts exceeding 45 mph were reported during this time frame.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Joaquin Valley - Hanford CA 318 AM PDT Mon Apr 24 2017 .SYNOPSIS... storm system moving g inland into the PAC NW will bring a few showers to the Sierra today as the low moves inland and weakens. Eastern Pacific ridge will remain nearly stationary as a low center deepens over the Great Basin. Gusty winds across the area will be expected at times through most of the week. && .DISCUSSION... Regional MRMS radar data is indicating showers slowly moving south through NRN CA. We are expecting clouds to continue to increase today with showers possible across the Sierra, mainly north of Kings Canyon. Snow levels are expected to be around 8k feet or higher. Not much precipitation is expected with this system. Windy conditions will weaken some across the Kern Co mountains and desert areas later this morning, but is forecast to increase again later this afternoon. Winds could become quite strong later tonight through the passes and across the Kern Co desert near Mojave. We have extended the wind Advisory through A second system is forecast to move inland into the PAC NW on Tuesday. This system will spread moisture south into the Sierra again on Wednesday. A strong trough will move through the area and allow winds to increase once again over the desert area. Winds will be strong through Friday as a very impressive offshore flow sets up across the area. Warming up on Saturday as EPAC ridge builds in and winds die out. Continued warm and nice this upcoming weekend with dry conditions expected. && .AVIATION... Mountain obscuration over the Sierra Nevada until 03z Tues. Strong gusty winds over 35 kts over the Tehachapi mountains and local mountain obscuration developing after 03z Tue. Otherwise VFR skies and visibility with breezy conditions will prevail throughout the central CA interior during the next 24 hours. && .AIR QUALITY ISSUES... None. && .CERTAINTY...
