Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 213 PM PDT MON JUL 11 2016 .SYNOPSIS...High pressure will slowly build into the Southwest bringing gradually warmer temperatures and continued dry conditions through next weekend. Monsoon moisture may return to northwest Arizona early next week for a slight chance of thunderstorms. && .DISCUSSION...through Monday. I hope some folks took advantage of the below normal temperatures and dry weather today. Typically in July, below normal temperatures of this magnitude are accompanied by cloudy/humid conditions with showers/thunderstorms in the vicinity. Extended break from monsoon flow looks to last through the upcoming weekend with models hinting moisture possibly returning to northwest Arizona next Monday. Expansive subtropical ridge from the eastern Pacific east to Texas will keep monsoon moisture at bay. Temperatures will warm through the weekend ending up some 3 to 6 degrees above normal Thursday and Friday. Ridge retreats eastward over the weekend as models shows a trough axis along the west coast. Southwest breezes will increase while temperatures lower a few degrees, back near normal. As ridge becomes repositioned to our east early week moisture will start working back west across Arizona. Moisture eventually encounters southwest over California/Nevada which holds moisture/instability at bay over western Arizona. && .AVIATION...For McCarran...Northeast-east winds less than 8 kts into early evening before becoming southerly overnight. Light northeasterly winds less than 8 kts Tuesday morning becoming southerly after 21Z with gusts up to 20 kts. Clear skies through the period. For the rest of southern Nevada...northwest Arizona...and southeast California...Typical diurnal wind pattern tonight and Tuesday.
