What happened

The episode as NWS PAH wrote it up.

Widespread dense fog blanketed parts of southeast Missouri, mainly south and west of Cape Girardeau. Visibility was reduced to one-quarter mile or less during the overnight hours and the early morning. High pressure over the middle Mississippi Valley and Lower Ohio Valley during the evening resulted in light winds and clear skies. These conditions were favorable for dense fog.
