.SYNOPSIS...
VISIBLE SATELLITE AND RADAR IMAGERY SHOW SHOWERS MOVING OUT OF THE
MARIANAS WATERS TO THE WEST. A STABLE AIRMASS IS EVIDENT IN
SATELLITE IMAGERY EAST OF THE MARIANAS IN ADVANCE OF ANOTHER WEAK
DISTURBANCE NEAR 148E. REGIONAL BUOYS SHOW SIGNIFICANT WAVE
HEIGHTS OF 7 TO 8 FEET. SCATTEROMETER DATA INDICATES SUBSIDING
WINDS ACROSS THE REGION.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
A PATCH OF CLOUDLESS SKIES IS OBSERVED MOVING INTO THE MARIANAS
COASTAL WATERS FROM THE EAST. HOWEVER...MORE CLOUDS AND WAVES OF
TRADE-WIND SHOWERS ARE FOUND EAST OF THE STABLE AIRMASS SO EXPECT
CLOUD COVER AND SHOWERS TO INCREASE OVERNIGHT. THIS FEATURE IS
SUBTLE BUT EVIDENT IN THE HIGHER RESOLUTION SCATTEROMETER DATA
AROUND 148E. OTHERWISE...ISOLATED TRADE-WIND SHOWERS AND PARTLY
CLOUDY SKIES ARE ANTICIPATED THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK.
MODELS STILL SHOW FURTHER DRYING THURSDAY ONWARD SO KEPT THE DRY
FORECAST THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

&&

.MARINE...
BOTH TANAPAG AND IPAN BUOYS ARE RESPONDING TO THE DECREASE IN
WINDS ACROSS THE REGION. WINDS AND COMBINED SEAS HAVE FALLEN
BELOW HAZARDOUS LEVELS SO THE SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY HAS BEEN
CANCELLED.

&&

.EASTERN MICRONESIA...
SATELLITE IMAGERY THIS AFTERNOON SHOWED A LARGE AREA OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCED BY TRADE-WIND CONVERGENCE SOUTH OF POHNPEI
AND KOSRAE. HIGH PRESSURE PASSING FAR TO THE NORTH OF THE AREA
PUSHED THIS SHOWER AREA SOUTH OF THESE LOCATIONS. THIS AREA HAS
PUSHED FAR ENOUGH SOUTH THAT ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS WERE TAKEN OUT
OF THE FORECAST FOR KOSRAE TONIGHT.

MODELS SHOW THAT THIS SHOWER AREA WILL REMAIN SOUTH OF 4N THROUGH
THE FORECAST. EXPECT NORTHEAST WINDS AND ISOLATED SHOWERS OVER THE
THREE LOCATIONS THROUGH THE FORECAST.

SCATTEROMETER DATA SHOWS NORTHEAST WINDS OF 15 TO 25 KNOTS OVER
POHNPEI...KOSRAE AND MAJURO. THIS IS HIGH ENOUGH TO KEEP THE SMALL
CRAFT ADVISORY OUT. WINDS WILL DECREASE AT POHNPEI AND KOSRAE BUT
REMAIN HIGH ENOUGH FOR SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY CONDITIONS AT MAJURO
THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT .

PERSISTENT EAST-NORTHEAST SWELL AND WIND WAVES WILL MAINTAIN
HAZARDOUS SURF AT KOSRAE THROUGH MIDWEEK.

&&

.WESTERN MICRONESIA...
A NEAR EQUATORIAL TROUGH STRETCHES ACROSS WESTERN MICRONESIA
SOUTH OF PALAU AND YAP. THIS AREA WILL REMAIN SOUTH OF THESE TWO
LOCATIONS THROUGH THE FORECAST. CONVERGENCE NORTH OF THE TROUGH
WILL HOWEVER KEEP SKIES MOSTLY CLOUDY AT CHUUK TONIGHT.

THE NEAR EQUATORIAL TROUGH IS PREDICTED TO MOVE A LITTLE NORTH BY
MID-WEEK. THE TROUGH WILL BE CLOSE ENOUGH TO PRODUCE MOSTLY CLOUDY
SKIES AT PALAU TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY AND WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY
NIGHT AT YAP. MODELS HINT THAT SCATTERED SHOWERS MAY BE POSSIBLE
WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY OVER PALAU BUT CONFIDENCE IN THIS REMAINS
LOW SO DID NOT ADD IT TO THAT FORECAST. IT MAY HOWEVER BE CLOSE
ENOUGH FOR THUNDERSTORMS SO ADDED THEM TO THE PALAU FORECAST
WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.

The experimental drought assessment of the U.S. Drought Monitor indicates that some locations in the Republic of Palau remain in a period of extreme drought conditions (Drought level 3).| Rainfall across The Republic of Palau continued to be lower than average. During March only 2.68 inches fell at the Weather Service Office as opposed to the average rainfall of 8.27 inches. | Peleliu, another island in the Republic located at the south end of the lagoon (30 miles S of Malakal Harbor), also showed the effect of the drought with only 2.63 inches falling in March compared to the average rainfall of 8.20 inches at that location. | The Ngerikiil Reservoir dropped to very low levels and flow of the|Ngerikill River is very low. As the drought has persisted for months the water supply has suffered in the Republic and water rationing was implemented. The severity of the drought necessitated water only being available for 6 hours per day or less. The hours that the water was turned off allowed the Utilities personnel to fill and maintain water level in all the distribution tanks in Koror and Airai to help ensure a supply of water at the scheduled hours. Some people on higher elevation had no water.
