Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Joaquin Valley - Hanford CA
1251 PM PDT WED JUN 1 2016

.SYNOPSIS...
A significant warming trend will continue place over the region
into the weekend as high pressure builds over Central California.
Triple digit temperatures can be expected through much of the San
Joaquin Valley, surrounding foothills, and the desert.
&&

.DISCUSSION...High pressure continues to intensify over the
forecast area with satellite imagery showing the center of the
anticyclone near Yosemite. Temperatures are responding with most
areas running 2-4 degrees hotter than yesterday and maxes on
target. Although the atmosphere is hot and "capped" that is with
an inversion aloft, cumulus are forming over the mountains and a
few convective columns just may have enough surface and slope
energy to break through the inversion and form a thunderstorm. As
for temperatures most major cities in the San Joaquin Valley will
top 100 for the first time this season today with further heating
to come over the next few days.

Forecast models shift the center of the ridge to the east and into
Arizona and Nevada by Friday and this will put Central California
on the warm side of the ridge with flow aloft from the south.
Heating through the atmospheric column will then be sufficient to
preclude any thunderstorms even over the Sierra on these days.
Models offer some cooling on Sunday with an area of low pressure
moving into the Central California coast Saturday night and
Sunday. I have included some nocturnal (at night) thunderstorms
in the Sierra Saturday night and continue these through Sunday.

Ridging is then progged to build in from the west next week
however at a much weaker level than the current scenario.

&&

.AVIATION...
VFR conditions will prevail throughout the central California
interior during the next 24 hours.

&&

.AIR QUALITY ISSUES...
On Wednesday June 1 2016... Unhealthy for sensitive groups in
Fresno... Kern... Kings... Madera... Merced and Tulare Counties
and Sequoia National Park and Forest.
