Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Joaquin Valley - Hanford CA
246 PM PDT SUN JUL 10 2016
.SYNOPSIS...
Below average temperatures and gusty winds are expected this evening
as a weak upper level trough moves through the region. Temperatures
will rebound later this week as high pressure returns.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Large scale upper low moving inland into the PAC NW has brought a
welcomed cool down across the Central CA Interior. Gusty winds
through and below the Kern County passes. Fire Danger continues to
be a threat as very dry fuels and gusty winds make for a bad
combination for fire starts. We have seen decent overnight
recoveries across the region with the cooler airmass in place.
Guidance is doing well with the current pattern...as the low center
will rapidly weaken over the nrn plains and open up and move east
into the Great Lakes. A second and much weaker low center drops
out of the gulf of AK towards Vancouver by Tuesday and remains
nearly stationary. The high pressure center over TX will begin to
build back northwards towards the four corners area Wednesday and
Thursday with a gradual warming trend on place for the Central CA
interior.
Some timing differences are being seen in the ensemble forecast
h500 heights by Friday as the low pressure center that was over
Vancouver tries to swing a deep trough into nrn CA by Friday with
cooling once again being possible for next weekend. The upper low
center is all over the place in the PAC NW with the deterministic
runs of the ECM and GFS. We are leaning more towards the Ensemble
GFS for now. The area remains dry as summer monsoon is contained
over Mexico as the upper ridge axis is more along a East to West
direction.
&&
.AVIATION...
VFR conditions can be expected throughout the central CA interior
during the next 24 hours. Gusty winds through and below the Kern
county Mountain passes.
&&
.AIR QUALITY ISSUES...
None.
