On the heels of the first storm, a second strong low developed south of the Panhandle on the night of 11/3. A triple point deepened to storm force 964 MB off Dixon Entrance around 9 AM.
Deaths and injuries are direct and indirect together, as the offices filed them. Damage is property and crops in the dollars of the year, not adjusted for inflation, and only where an office estimated it.

On the heels of the first storm, a second strong low developed south of the Panhandle on the night of 11/3. A triple point deepened to storm force 964 MB off Dixon Entrance around 9 AM. By afternoon the associated front moved onto Prince of Wales Island to drive some very strong winds for the southern Panhandle, BUT this case is unusual in that the wind damage was in the Juneau area with downed trees and power outages.

.SHORT AND LONG TERM...A strong 970 mb low this morning south of
the Gulf of Alaska has a triple point low moving quickly north
past Haida Gwaii by mid morning and then north along the coast
and inland near Cross Sound late this afternoon. The warm front
will sweep north across the panhandle with the associated cold
front not that far behind today. Expect much of the warm air to
stay aloft moving to the north central panhandle by late
afternoon. 925 mb temperatures show the initial push of 9C temps
cooling to near 6C over the north central panhandle, then falling
to 2 to 4 C by saturday morning behind the cold front.
The well developed surface feature has tight pressure gradient
along with strong low level jet of 50 to 75 kt is resulting in
storm force winds along the west coast of Prince of Wales,
Baranof, and Chichagof Island today. Also brought Clarence Strait
up to Storm force today.
As the low moves past the outer coast, expect a sharp turn to the
winds and strong west to southwest wind for a few hours before
diminishing through tonight. Gusts to 50 to 55 mph possible for
Baranof and Chichagof island until the low weakens and jumps
inland over the northern panhandle.
There is a substantial pocket of cold air wrapping about the big
low that has strong open cell shower look. This is aiding the
sparking of thunder over the eastern Pacific on the south and
southeast side of the low. Expect this to follow the triple point
northward over the outer coastal waters into tonight.
A developing wave moving across the western and northern Pacific
Ocean will move into western gulf Saturday. Models are fairly similar
on this low in a position and depth, dropping lower than 960 mb on
Saturday. This will help eject the earlier mentioned low south of
the gulf, northeast to Eastern Dixon Entrance Saturday night. The
strong low is expected to persist over the central gulf into next
week.
A development off the new gulf low appears to be taking aim at
the southern panhandle for Sunday night into Monday with the
potential for strong winds and some heavier rain. Will need to
watch and fine tune with future model solutions.
In the longer range the differences between the solutions are
continuing to accumulate so kept the ensemble solution that was in
place for mid to late next week. Confidence is average.

.AVIATION...Lots of low level wind shear and turbulence for the
southern panhandle today as the storm force low moves in. This
LLWS and turb will be moving up the panhandle through the
afternoon and into tonight as the low moves northward just off the
outer coast. Some areas of marginal vfr and ifr conditions
expected with heavier frontal precip across the southern panhandle
today with those areas moving northward as well through the
afternoon and into tonight. Yakutat will likely be the only place
that stays vfr with little in the way of wind shear or turbulence
through tonight.

Observation outage for NWS Zone 27 during this storm. Nearby stations had 60 to 70 mph wind speeds. Cape Decision had several observations around 67 MPH. Hydaburg |did not report.
Ketchikan Airport observed gusts 60 to 70 mph on 11/4. No damage was reported.
Multiple power outages were reported to the NWS by AEL&P. Blow-down trees took out power lines. Some private home fences were damaged.
