What happened

The episode as NWS ALY wrote it up.

Shortly after noon on December 31st, a fast moving snow squall impacted portions of south-central Saratoga County. This snow squall lasted only 15 to 30 minutes in duration, but quickly produced a light coating of snow on all surfaces. Along with the snow were strong, gusty winds, which allowed for a rapid reduction in visibility.

As this snow squall was near the Ballston Spa area, it impacted Interstate 87 (The Adirondack Northway) between exits 11 and 12. The reduction in visibility and slick road conditions caused multiple car accidents along the highway. This included a tractor trailer, which jack-knifed. The tractor trailer spilled 75 gallons of diesel fuel, which needed to be cleaned up by emergency crews and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The Adirondack Northway was closed in the northbound direction for several hours. Luckily, no injuries or deaths were reported due to the accidents.
