Bitterly cold Arctic air flooded into northeast Missouri during the early morning hours of January 5th as strong high pressure slowly built southeastward into the region January 5th through the 7th. Temperatures remained below zero across the region Sunday night into Tuesday morning with strong northerly winds of 15 to 25 mph that produced wind chill readings of 30 to 40 below zero at times.

Bitterly cold Arctic air flooded into northeast Missouri during the early morning hours of January 5th as strong high pressure slowly built southeastward into the region January 5th through the 7th. Temperatures remained below zero across the region Sunday night into Tuesday morning with strong northerly winds of 15 to 25 mph that produced wind chill readings of 30 to 40 below zero at times. This led to the widespread closing of schools in northeast Missouri on Monday and Tuesday.
