In a very short period of time, these snow showers dumped 1 to 2 inches of snow on portions of Harlan and Letcher counties. The snow quickly covered roads going over Pine Mountain, which caused numerous motorists to become stranded.

An inch and a half of snow fell 1 mile west of Cranks.

The state police post in Harlan reported that about 2 inches of snow had fallen on Pine Mountain. Several cars became stranded on the mountain and Highway 421 had to be temporarily shut down due to hazardous road conditions. It was still snowing heavily at the time this report was called in.
