A weak area of low pressure aloft moved across Arkansas on the evening of the 9th, touching off light freezing rain and sleet in parts of central and southern Arkansas. Although amounts were generally a tenth of an inch or less, the ground was cold from a previous intrusion of Arctic air.

.SHORT TERM...TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT
EXTENSIVE CLOUD COVER HELD TEMPERATURES IN CHECK ACROSS THE COUNTY
WARNING AREA BUT MANY AREAS ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN SECTIONS
WERE ABLE TO CRACK THE FREEZING MARK. MODELS CONTINUE TO SHOW
GRADUAL WARMING THOUGH THE PERIOD WITH A QUICK SHOT OF WINTER
WEATHER POSSIBLE TONIGHT. WITH MODELS IN DECENT AGREEMENT...A BLEND
OF FORECAST SOLUTIONS IS PREFERRED.

TROUGH EXTENDING FROM THE GREAT LAKES TO THE DESERT SOUTHWEST WILL
SWING THROUGH THE REGION TONIGHT. TWO WEAK WAVES MOVING THROUGH THE
PREVAILING FLOW WILL IMPACT THE AREA TONIGHT WITH YET ANOTHER
SHOT...ALBEIT A QUICK ONE...OF WINTER WEATHER. FIRST WAVE WILL JUST
BRUSH THE NORTHERN MOST ZONES AND IS ACTUALLY A TOUCH WEAKER VERSUS
THIS TIME YESTERDAY. WILL HOLD ONTO SLIGHT CHANCES OF LIGHT SNOW
ACROSS THE NORTHERN ZONES BUT WILL HOLD OFF ON ANY HIGHLIGHTS AS
IMPACT SHOULD BE MINIMAL.

ANOTHER WAVE WILL LIFT OUT OF EAST TEXAS/EASTERN LOUISIANA LATE THIS
AFTERNOON. WITH TEMPERATURES ABOVE FREEZING...PRECIPITATION WILL
BEGIN INITIALLY AS RAIN. HOWEVER...AS THE COLUMN COOLS EXPECT A
CHANGE OVER TO A LIGHT WINTERY MIX OVER THE SOUTHEAST PART OF THE
FORECAST AREA. QPF WILL REMAIN LIGHT BUT A LIGHT GLAZE AND WILL BE
POSSIBLE OVER THE FAR SOUTHEAST AND A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY WILL
BE ISSUED FOR TONIGHT. EXPECT THIS DISTURBANCE TO BE EAST OF THE
AREA BY MORNING AND THE OVERALL IMPACT WILL BE MINIMAL.

REMAINDER OF THE PERIOD WILL BE DRY WITH HIGH PRESSURE DOMINATING.
WITH ABUNDANT SUNSHINE EXPECTED TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY AND
INCREASING SOUTHERLY FLOW...EXPECT TEMPERATURES TO SLOWLY RISE
ALTHOUGH THEY WILL STILL BE WELL BELOW NORMAL. CLOUDS WILL BE ON THE
INCREASE LATE IN THE PERIOD AS THE NEXT SYSTEM APPROACHES AS THE
SHORT PERIOD ENDS.

.LONG TERM...FRIDAY THOUGH MONDAY NIGHT
PRECIP WILL BEGIN SPREADING ACROSS THE FA ON FRIDAY AS GULF MOISTURE
SURGES IN AHEAD OF A DEVELOPING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IN NORTHEAST
TEXAS. POPS WILL TREND UP THROUGH THE DAY...BECOMING WIDESPREAD
ACROSS ARKANSAS BY FRIDAY EVENING. THIS EVENT SHOULD REMAIN ALL
LIQUID. HOWEVER IF THIS SYSTEM WERE TO SPEED UP...IT WILL BEGIN AS
LIGHT FREEZING RAIN. EITHER WAY...IT WILL COME TO AN END AS RAIN
WITH NO ICE ACCUMULATION EXPECTED AS TEMPS WARM THROUGH THE DAY.

PRECIP WILL COME TO AN END SATURDAY MORNING...WITH CLOUD COVER
HANGING ON IN NORTHERN ARKANSAS AS MOISTURE WRAPS AROUND THE
BACKSIDE OF THE DEPARTING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM. AS TEMPS FALL
OVERNIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY...THERE COULD BE A BRIEF PERIOD OF SNOW
FLURRIES NEAR THE AR/MO BORDER. AGAIN...NO SNOW/ICE ACCUMULATION IS
EXPECTED.

BY THE END OF THE WEEKEND...HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD OVER THE
SOUTHWEST CONUS AS THE ACTIVE TROUGH LIFTS TO THE NORTHEAST.
ARKANSAS WILL BE PLACED IN NORTHWEST FLOW TEMPORARILY...WITH A COOL
AND DRY AIRMASS IN PLACE PROVIDING TEMPERATURES SLIGHTLY BELOW
NORMAL IN THE 20S AND 40S AS WE MOVE INTO THE WORK WEEK.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

A WEAK SYSTEM PASSING BY TONIGHT MAY BRING SOME LIGHT WINTRY
PRECIPITATION TO PORTIONS OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL ARKANSAS. THE MOST
PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED NEAR THE MISSOURI BORDER WHERE SOME LIGHT
SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS LESS THAN ONE INCH ARE
EXPECTED.

A SECOND WEAK DISTURBANCE WILL SPREAD A LIGHT WINTRY MIX OF SLEET
AND FREEZING RAIN SOUTHEAST ARKANSAS LATER THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT.
A LIGHT GLAZE WILL BE POSSIBLE OVER THIS PART OF THE STATE
ESPECIALLY ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS
IN EFFECT FOR PARTS OF FAR SOUTHEAST ARKANSAS THIS EVENING THROUGH
EARLY TUESDAY MORNING.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY

A WEAK SYSTEM WILL MOVE THROUGH ON FRIDAY. SOME LIGHT FREEZING
RAIN MAY OCCUR OVER THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE STATE EARLY FRIDAY
MORNING...BUT TEMPERATURES WILL RISE ABOVE FREEZING QUICKLY SO
IMPACTS WILL BE MINIMAL. ADDITIONALLY...PRECIPITATION LINGERING
INTO EARLY SATURDAY MORNING MAY COINCIDE WITH TEMPERATURES
DROPPING BELOW FREEZING IN NORTHERN ARKANSAS. THUS A BRIEF PERIOD
OF FREEZING RAIN MAY OCCUR IN THE NORTH BEFORE PRECIPITATION COMES
TO AN END AROUND DAYBREAK SATURDAY.
