A very hot period occurred during the last week of June. Maximum temperatures climbed to 100 degrees or higher on the 28th through 30th in Winchester, the 28th through 30th at Fayetteville, and on the 29th and 30th at Lynchburg. Even on the Cumberland Plateau, the temperature reached 101 degrees at Sewanee on the 30th. At Lynchburg, the temperature reached 108 degrees.

TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE TENNESSEE VALLEY HAVE QUICKLY RISEN AFTER
SUNRISE...WITH 10AM READINGS OF 96 AT KMSL...94 AT KHSV AND A 'COOL'
86 AT SCOTTSBORO. THIS PUTS US ANYWHERE FROM 5 TO 10 DEGREES WARMER
THAN THE SAME TIME YESTERDAY AT MOST LOCATIONS. WITH LIGHT WINDS ALSO
HAVING VEERED TO BE MORE OUT OF THE S/SW...SLIGHTLY GREATER MOISTURE
HAS ALSO PUSHED BACK INTO THE AREA. BUT EVEN WITH MORNING DEWPOINTS
IN THE 60S AND 70S PUSHING AS CLOSE AS COLUMBUS MS...WE SHOULD STILL
SEE SOME DIURNAL MIXING OF DRIER AIR THAT WILL DROP VALUES INTO THE
MID AND MAYBE LOWER 50S.

THE CONSIDERABLY WARMER START AND THE UPPER 90S TO NEAR 100 MAX TEMPS
REACHED YESTERDAY SUGGEST THAT WE WILL EASILY SEE TEMPS AT OR ABOVE
100 DEGREES TODAY FOR LOCATIONS ALONG AND WEST OF I-65. THE MORE
URBAN AREAS OF KMSL AND KHSV HAVE BEEN WARMING MORE THAN SURROUNDING
AREAS RECENTLY...SO MADE SURE THAT THAT WAS ALSO REFLECTED IN THE
GRIDS. THE HEAT ADVISORY HAS ALSO BEEN EXPANDED TO INCLUDE THE
FOLLOWING COUNTIES: LINCOLN AND MOORE
TN...MADISON...MORGAN...LIMESTONE AND CULLMAN AL.

RECORD OR NEAR RECORD HEAT WILL EXPAND ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF THE
AREA ON FRIDAY. TEMPERATURES ON FRIDAY ARE EXPECTED TO REACH OR
EXCEED 100 DEGREES AT MOST LOCATIONS. A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT
