What happened

The episode as NWS GYX wrote it up.

An area of low pressure over the lower Mississippi Valley on the morning of the 22nd moved northeast to western Pennsylvania by the morning of the 23rd as a secondary low started to develop off the New Jersey coast. The secondary low intensified as it moved northeast along the coast on the 23rd. Snow developed across the western, central, and northern sections of the state late on the 22nd and became heavier in the early morning hours of the 23rd. The extreme southwestern part of the state saw mostly rain. Snowfall amounts ranged from about an inch along the southwestern coast to 6 to 12 inches across much of the remainder of western and mid-coast Maine. The greatest accumulations occurred in a band from northern York and southern Oxford Counties northeast through Cumberland, Androscoggin and Kennebec Counties.
