A surface cold front moved eastward across Middle Tennessee from the evening hours on Friday, December 24th through the early morning hours on Saturday, December 25th. A broad upper level trough, and associated closed upper level low, moved across the mid state during the time period from late Friday night, December 24th, through Sunday, December 26th. With surface temperatures in the lower 30s to middle 20s during this time period also, and an abundance of cold air aloft, a significant snowfall event occurred across most of the mid state. Total snowfall accumulations generally ranged from one to three inches across the area, resulting in a significant impact to commerce and transportation across the entire mid state.

Three and one half inches of total snowfall accumulation occurred across the county. Newspaper also reported that a two vehicle car accident on U.S. Highway 127 in Clarkrange sent three people to the hospital due to icy road conditions on Saturday afternoon, December 25th. These three people were sent to a local hospital with minor injuries. The three vehicles sustained moderate damage in the accident. A dollar amount associated with this moderate damage was unknown. Newspaper also reported that a single car accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, December 26th also, with the driver and the two people riding in the car receiving minor injuries and being sent to a local hospital. Otherwise, this total snowfall accumulation resulted in other roads throughout the county becoming hazardous due to the snowfall accumulation.

A newspaper also reported that a 20 year old women died when her car that she was driving on ice and snow covered Vendever Road in Crossville suddenly slide off the road while she was entering a curve on this road, and eventually slammed into a utility pole on the driver's side door, resulting in initial massive injuries. The exact damage amount cost to the vehicle was unknown. A newspaper also reported the late afternoon snow and roads that never dried out from the afternoon drizzle, coupled with falling temperatures, prompted a rash of crashes across the county after dark. At one point, Rutherford County Sheriff's Deputies had to close State Route 840 in both directions from the Northwest Broad Street interchange north of Murfreesboro east to Exit 57 toward Franklin due to emergency crews responding to a six-car pile up at one point on the highway due to weather conditions. An SUV was reported to have overturned in the median of Shelbyville Pike near Rock Springs-Midland Road, with eight people in the vehicle. Information on the type and extent of injuries along with information concerning the type and amount of damage to each of the individual cars in the six-car pile up and the overturned SUV was unknown. Otherwise, this total snowfall accumulation resulted in roads throughout the remainder of the county becoming hazardous due to the snowfall accumulation.
