AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AMARILLO TX
915 PM CDT SAT JUL 31 2010

.UPDATE...
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAVE WANED IN COVERAGE OVER THE PAST FEW
HOURS BUT ARE BEGINNING TO INCREASE ACROSS THE NORTHWESTERN ZONES
ALONG AN OUTFLOW BOUNDARY EMANATING FROM CONVECTION IN SOUTHEAST CO.
POPS REMAIN HIGHEST IN THE NORTHWEST HAVE HAVE REMOVED ACROSS THE
SOUTHERN TIER FOR THIS EVENING. POPS WERE ALSO TRIMMED BACK AFTER
MIDNIGHT AS UPPER LEVEL FORCING IS NOT VERY STRONG AND MUCH OF THIS
ACTIVITY IS DIURNALLY FORCED. MIN TEMPS WERE ADJUSTED SLIGHTLY WITH
OTHER MODIFICATIONS MADE TO SUNDAY MAX TEMPS WHERE THE FORECAST WAS
INCREASED 1 TO 2 DEGREES BASED ON THE ANTICIPATED TREND FROM TODAY/S
OBSERVED TEMPS. THE UPDATED FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED SHORTLY.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 534 PM CDT SAT JUL 31 2010/

AVIATION...
STATIONARY FRONT LIES WEST TO EAST ACROSS THE CENTRAL TEXAS PANHANDLE
LATE THIS AFTERNOON. THIS FRONT HAS BEEN THE FOCUS FOR SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS. WILL CONTINUE WITH THE CB REMARKS IN THE DHT AND AMA
TAF SITES TONIGHT AND MAY MENTION A PERIOD OF TSRA AT GUY THIS
EVENING AS THEY STAND THE BEST CHANCE. WINDS WILL GRADUALLY VEER BACK
AROUND TO THE SOUTH AT THE DHT AND GUY TAF SITES BY LATE MORNING
SUNDAY. SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL THEN INCREASE INTO THE 15 TO 20 KNOT
RANGE WITH HIGHER GUSTS AT ALL TAF SITES. SKIES WILL REMAIN VFR
OUTSIDE OF TSRA THROUGH THIS FORECAST.

PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 350 PM CDT SAT JUL 31 2010/

DISCUSSION...
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP ALONG THE REMNANTS
OF THE COLD FRONT THAT STALLED ACROSS THE TEXAS PANHANDLE THIS
MORNING. THOUGH STORMS SHOULD REMAIN BELOW SEVERE STRENGTH...AMPLE
MOIST AND UNSTABLE CONDITIONS WILL SUPPORT BRIEF YET STRONG
UPDRAFTS WHICH COULD LEAD TO LOCALIZED GUSTY WINDS. DAYTIME HEATING
SHOULD BE A KEY FACTOR ON THE TIMING OF THESE SHOWERS AND
STORMS.

THE EFFECTS OF THE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM THAT HAS PERSISTED OVER THE
REGION COULD LEAD TO SLIGHTLY WARMER TEMPERATURES ON SUNDAY AND
MONDAY. ALSO...INCREASING SUBSIDENCE WILL INHIBIT THUNDERSTORM
DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THE PANHANDLES.

BY MID WEEK...FRONTAL FORCING MAY EDGE INTO THE OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE...
BRINGING BACK RAIN CHANCES TO THE FORECAST. EXISTING SLIGHT CHANCE
POPS LOOK GOOD FOR TUESDAY NIGHT. SINCE DAYTIME HEATING WILL
CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEVELOPMENT...WE DECIDED TO START THEM EARLIER ON
TUESDAY OVER THE WESTERN PARTS OF THE OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE. WE ALSO
CONSIDERED ADDING LOW POPS FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT BUT WOULD PREFER TO
SEE LESS DOMINANCE FROM THE RIDGE.

NUNEZ

FIRE WEATHER...
WARMER TEMPERATURES ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY MAY RESULT IN A BRIEF PERIOD
OF RELATIVE HUMIDITIES NEAR 20 PERCENT. GIVEN THE LIGHTER WINDS...
FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS WILL REMAIN LOW.
