Strong low pressure tracked northeast from central North Carolina across eastern Virginia during the afternoon and evening of January 17, 2010. Some strong winds impacted the coast during the early afternoon hours as the low pressure center passed to the west. During the evening some isolated thunderstorms ahead of a trailing cold front produced gusty winds over the coastal plain.
