What happened

The episode as NWS GSP wrote it up.

A weak area of low pressure passed south of the region, spreading light rain across western North Carolina. Temperatures were cold enough for the precipitation to fall as light freezing rain over the northern mountains, and over a small part of the northwest piedmont, mainly in Davie County. The main impact was to travel, as icy roads were reported, especially in the northern mountains. The freezing rain changed to rain late in the morning, as temperatures warmed above freezing.
