A cold front came across Fort Peck Lake shortly after 3 pm creating strong winds up to 40 mph for 3-4 hours afterwards. Several boaters who were unfamiliar with Fort Peck Lake were in boats that were either capsized or close to capsizing.

A cold front came across Fort Peck Lake shortly after 3 pm creating strong winds up to 40 mph for 3-4 hours afterwards. Several boaters who were unfamiliar with Fort Peck Lake were in boats that were either capsized or close to capsizing. Valley County Search and Rescue had to respond to four calls of boats that were either in danger of sinking or which were actually swamped by the strong waves that resulted with the winds.

Several hours of gusty winds created havoc with boaters on Fort Peck Lake. Five different incidents occurred including a swamped and capsized boat near Duck Creek. No injuries were reported.
