Oppressive heat and humidity for June standards affected central, south-central and southeast Kansas from the 20th through the 23rd. Afternoon heat indices from 103 to 107 degrees were common, highest generally east of the Kansas Turnpike over southeast Kansas. No reports of heat related illnesses, deaths, property or crop damages were received. A strong cold front moved southeast across the area late on the 23rd, ushering slightly cooler air southward across the area.
