Strong south winds developed ahead of a cold front trailing south from an unseasonably strong low pressure system over the Upper Mississippi Valley. Peak wind gusts were from 40 to 50 mph, with isolated gusts near 55 mph. Some tree limbs and even a few weaker trees were blown down. At the Carbondale airport, a peak gust to 57 mph was recorded by the automated observing system.
