A strong upper level disturbance and attendant surface cold front combined to produce scattered showers and thunderstorms across the eastern half of central North Carolina. The unseasonably dry low levels of the atmosphere across central North Carolina created a favorable environment for any thunderstorms that developed to produce damaging winds. Many of the thunderstorms that developed became severe and produced damaging winds across the eastern half of central North Carolina.
