An extremely dry September led to drought conditions to develop in October from extreme northern Aitkin County, northern Cass County and northwestern Itasca County. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Severe (D2) drought conditions overspread this area, as precipitation was some 5 to 25 percent of normal during the previous month.
