Very cold arctic air sank into the Northern Plains in mid January 2009. The light winds of 5 to 15 mph at times caused wind chills to run 40 to 60 below zero across much of west central and northwestern Minnesota. Wind chills fell to 40 to 50 below zero Wednesday. The coldest wind chills of 40 to 60 below zero occurred Wednesday (14th) night into Thursday (15th) morning. Wind chills were once again 40 to 55 below zero Thursday evening into Friday morning.

IT IS TAPPING INTO SW SARGENT COUNTY. SNOW TO LIQUID RATIOS OF
AROUND 30 TO 1 WERE REPORTED IN THE CENTRAL PART OF THE STATE.
WINDS ARE INCREASING TO THE 15 TO 20 MPH RANGE IN THE DEVILS LAKE
BASIN AND VALLEY CITY AREA. ALSO WINDS ARE STARTING TO EXCEED 10
MPH IN THE VALLEY AND PARTS OF MY SOUTHEAST.

DUE TO INCREASING WINDS IN THE VALLEY...WILL MOVE START TIME FOR
THE WIND CHILL ADVISORY TO 4 PM FOR THE VALLEY AND SOUTHEASTERN
