A cold west to northwest flow of air traversing the Great Lakes, combined with the passage of an upper level disturbance, led to numerous snow showers and embedded heavier snow squalls across portions of the Berkshires during Thursday January 8th.
Within the most persistent snow showers and squalls, snowfall amounts ranged from 3 to 6 inches, with some areas experiencing snowfall rates of between one and two inches per hour. The snow showers and squalls developed during the mid morning hours of Thursday, and tapered off during the early evening hours of Thursday.
