Deaths and injuries are direct and indirect together, as the offices filed them. Damage is property and crops in the dollars of the year, not adjusted for inflation, and only where an office estimated it.
A large 536 decameter upper-level low pressure center and a strong surface cold front brought periods of gusty winds, heavy rain, small hail, and mountain snow to much of California. Rainfall totals varied from around 0.6 inches near the coast and up to 2.5 inches in the foothills. Snowfall amounts of up to 18 inches were reported in the mountains, bringing the snow depth in Big Bear City to 45 inches. Heavy rain caused urban flooding, mainly on highways and in areas with poor drainage. At one point, the California Highway Patrol reported 7 inches of water in the lanes at the Interstate 5 and Interstate 8 interchange. Several highways in the mountains, including Interstate 15 through the Cajon Pass, were closed due to snow.
