Drought, Dekalb

When
October 1, 12:00 AM CST to October 31, 11:59 PM CST
Where
Dekalb forecast zone
Reported by
Other Federal Agency
Coordinates
34.460, -85.804 (the zone’s center; the record gives no point)

Following a dry September, the Central Tennessee Valley desperately needed a near normal October (usually the driest month of the year for parts of our area). The first week was dry, but then a major storm system moved through on the 7th and 8th, bringing most of the rainfall for the month. Following that system, only light rain was observed on a couple of occasions the rest of the month. Ultimately, though, rain amounts were near or even above normal. This rainfall kept Jackson county in the D2 drought classification and the drought from intensifying in eastern Dekalb county.
