An inverted trough developed along the Middle Atlantic coastal waters during the day on the 18th. The convergent flow near this trough helped some light snow to fall across the local Philadelphia during the afternoon of the 18th.
Deaths and injuries are direct and indirect together, as the offices filed them. Damage is property and crops in the dollars of the year, not adjusted for inflation, and only where an office estimated it.
The episode as NWS PHI wrote it up.
An inverted trough developed along the Middle Atlantic coastal waters during the day on the 18th. The convergent flow near this trough helped some light snow to fall across the local Philadelphia during the afternoon of the 18th. It was the first widespread measurable snow of the winter season, even though all places accumulated less than half an inch. Temperatures were right around the freezing mark and the snow caused untreated bridges and overpasses to become slippery. In Bucks County, in Falls Township, twenty-one vehicles were involved in accidents on an icy railroad overpass on Lincoln Highway. Drivers had trouble stopping on the overpass as they started their downhill descent. Several people were injured and one was hospitalized because of a leg injury. There were other minor accidents during the evening commute on bridges and overpasses in lower Bucks County. Accumulations included 0.1 inches at the Philadelphia International Airport.

NWS Philadelphia/Mount Holly wrote its last area forecast discussion before the first event at Jan 18, 11:15 AM EST, 2 hours 45 minutes earlier.
