What happened

The episode as NWS DDC wrote it up.

A strong upper level low pressure system moved rapidly from west Texas through western Kansas Saturday evening and night, January 20th. This brought heavy snow to much of southwest and south central Kansas by Sunday morning, January 21st. By the time the snow tapered to flurries early Sunday morning, heavy snow covered two large areas of southwestern Kansas. Six to nine inches of snow fell basically northwest of a line from Johnson City to Sublette to Howell to Hanston to Ash Valley. Within this area the largest amounts near 9 inches fell at Garden City in Finney County and also 10 miles south of Collyer in Trego County.|The second area of heavy snow blanketed mostly south central Kansas and was southeast of a line from Liberal to Dodge City to Bucklin to Larned. Most of this area received from 5 to 8 inches of snowfall, with Ashland in Clark County and a point 3 miles north of Greensburg both reporting 8.5 inches. Oddly enough, there was a 20 to 50 mile wide swath from Elkhart to Montezuma to Windhorst to Sanford which only received 3 to 5 inches, and this swath was situated between the other two heavier snow areas.
