Area forecast discussion, Jul 31, 8:30 PM HST, 3 hours 30 minutes before
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HONOLULU HI
830 PM HST TUE JUL 31 2007

.SYNOPSIS...THE LIGHT TO MODERATE TRADE WINDS PRESENTLY BLOWING
ACROSS OUR ISLANDS WILL STRENGTHEN A BIT LATE FRIDAY AS A STRONG
HIGH PRESSURE CENTER BUILDS FAR TO THE NORTH NORTHEAST. SCATTERED
SHOWERS WILL MOVE ONTO THE ISLANDS LATER TONIGHT AND THEN DECREASE
BY MID MORNING WEDNESDAY. THEY WILL MAINLY AFFECT WINDWARD OR MAUKA
AREAS. OTHERWISE ANOTHER MOSTLY SUNNY DAY IS EXPECTED WEDNESDAY.

&&

.DISCUSSION...SHOWERS APPARENT ON SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOULD FILL IN
SOMEWHAT DURING THE NIGHT AND MAY AT TIMES BE MODERATE IN STRENGTH.
THE ENHANCEMENT OF THESE SHOWERS WILL BE DUE TO THE INFLUENCE OF THE
WEAK UPPER TROUGH STRETCHED OUT FROM NORTH OF THE ISLANDS TO WEST OF
KAUAI. THIS TROUGH CONTINUES TO PRODUCE SOMEWHAT UNSTABLE
ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS AND WILL PULL UP VARIABLE...MOSTLY THIN...
CIRRUS CLOUDINESS WEDNESDAY. WATER VAPOR IMAGERY DOES NOT HOWEVER
INDICATE MUCH MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS UPPER TROUGH AND
TEMPERATURES AT MID ATMOSPHERIC LEVELS ARE NOT VERY COLD...SO
CONVECTIVE THREAT IS LOW. THROUGH THE NEXT FEW DAYS THE UPPER LOW TO
THE NORTH CONSOLIDATES AT BOTH HIGH AND MID LEVELS AND FINALLY LIFTS
OUT TO THE NORTHWEST THIS WEEKEND. WITHOUT A BETTER SOURCE OF
MOISTURE BEING ADVECTED INTO OUR AREA AND ALSO BECAUSE THE LARGE
SURFACE HIGH FAR TO THE NORTH NORTHEAST STRENGTHENS SIGNIFICANTLY
THE RESULTING SHOWER ACTIVITY WILL RESEMBLE THE RATHER TYPICAL
TRADE SHOWER PATTERN. THERE MAY BE A SLIGHT INCREASE IN TRADE
SHOWERS HOWEVER DURING THE WEEKEND WHEN TRADES PICK UP A NOTCH.

NEXT FORECAST PACKAGE MAY DELAY THE ONSET OF INCREASED TRADE WINDS
UNTIL FRIDAY NIGHT. THIS IS DUE TO THE PROXIMITY OF THE UPPER LOW.
OTHERWISE NO CHANGES FROM PREVIOUS FORECAST EXPECTED.

&&

.MARINE...THE POSSIBILITY EXISTS FOR SMALL CRAFT ADVISORIES OVER THE
WEEKEND FOR THE WINDIER AREAS SUCH AS THE ALENUIHAHA...PAILOLO
CHANNELS...SOUTH BIG ISLAND WATERS AND MAALAEA BAY ON MAUI BY FRIDAY
NIGHT.

&&

.HFO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
NONE.
