Heavy Snow in Alaska, November 4 to 5, 2007
A warm front moving north from Bristol Bay produced heavy snow over the southeast slopes of the Nulato Hills including the village of Kaltag during the 4th. The Cooperative Observer at Kaltag reported 8 inches of snow by 1900AST on the 5th.

ALOFT...RIDGING AHEAD OF THE NEXT SYSTEM CURRENTLY IN THE BERING SEA IS WORKING ITS WAY OVER THE INTERIOR. GENERAL FLOW OVER THE WESTERN INTERIOR WILL BE SOUTHERLY...SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW WILL REMAIN OVER THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN INTERIOR. AT THE SURFACE...THE DOMINANT FEATURE IS A STATIONARY 972 MB LOW IN THE BERING SEA. ITS ASSOCIATED OCCLUDED FRONT IS CURRENTLY STRETCHING FROM SAINT MATTHEW ISLAND TO CAPE ROMANZOF TO BETHEL THEN SOUTH. THIS FRONT WILL CONTINUE TO MARCH NORTHWARD WITH ITS OUTER REACHES APPROACHING NOME BY NOON AND KOTZEBUE BY MID AFTERNOON. EXPECT GUSTY WINDS AND STEADY LIGHT SNOW WITH ISOLATED SNOW SHOWERS BEHIND THE FRONT. THE FRONT WILL INTERACT WITH THE ARCTIC BOUNDARY CURRENTLY LYING ALONG THE SEWARD PENINSULA AND EAST TO JUST NORTH OF HUSLIA AND POSSIBLY ENHANCE SNOWFALL TOTALS IN NORTHERN 216...219...210...AND 217. MAX SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL BE SUB-ADVISORY...AROUND 3 INCHES OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS ALONG THE ARCTIC BOUNDARY AND ALONG THE WINDWARD SLOPES OF THE BROOKS RANGE. SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS CONTINUE THIS MORNING THROUGH MUCH OF THE INTERIOR...THOUGH WINDS THROUGH THE ALASKA RANGE SHOULD PICK UP BY NOON...GUSTING TO 40 MPH THROUGH PASSES LEAVING MUCH OF ZONES 221 222 223 AND 224 DRY AS A RESULT.
