Strong thunderstorms were capable of producing very large hail during the late evening of April 23, due to very cold air aloft in the atmosphere. Severe criteria large hail reports were received from areas near Baltimore, Maryland, including the adjacent waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Later that evening, wet grounds contributed to the development of areas of dense fog, mainly in the Washington and Baltimore region.
