THE STRONG AND GUSTY TRADE WINDS WILL BE GIVING WAY TO MORE GENTLER
TRADES BY THIS WEEKEND. THE AMOUNT OF TRADE SHOWERS MAY PICKUP
SLIGHTLY LATER THIS WEEK AS THE ISLANDS COMES UNDER THE INFLUENCE
OF A SHEAR LINE AND A MID TO UPPER LEVEL TROUGH. THESE SHOWERS WILL
BE CONFINED TO MOSTLY THE WINDWARD AND MOUNTAIN AREAS.

NO BIG SURPRISES THIS EVENING. WINDS ATOP MAUNA KEA AND MAUNA LOA
ARE ON THE DECLINE. WILL BE LEAVING THE WIND ADVISORY UP
OVERNIGHT...BUT MAY BE ABLE TO CANCEL IT BEFORE SUNRISE THURSDAY.
WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR.
ITS/S BEEN PRETTY DRY ACROSS MOST OF THE STATE...BASED ON THE
RAINFALL GAGES. NONE OF THE GAGES ON KAUAI...MOLOKAI...MAUI OR LANAI
REPORTED ANY RAINFALL BETWEEN 2 PM AND 8 PM. ONE GAGE ON
OAHU...PUNALUU PUMP...REPORTED A HUNDREDTH OF AN INCH. MEANWHILE ON
THE BIG ISLAND...ALL THE WINDWARD GAGES REPORTED RAIN...AND THREE
GAGES ON THE LEEWARD SITE PICKED UP A FEW HUNDREDTHS. WITH LIMITED
MOISTURE UPSTREAM OF THE ISLANDS...WILL BE DECREASING THE POPS OVER
THE WINDWARD WATERS FOR TONIGHT. WILL LEAVE THE LAND POPS AS
IS...WITH THE ANTICIPATION OF SOME CLOUD BUILDUP OVERNIGHT.
OTHERWISE...AM NOT EXPECTING ANY CHANGES TO THE GRIDS FOR THE NEXT
SEVERAL HOURS.

ABOUT A 1030 MB SURFACE HIGH REMAINS FAR TO THE NORTH NORTHWEST
OF THE STATE. IT WILL LINGER AROUND THAT AREA TIL THURSDAY NIGHT
BEFORE DRIFTING OFF TO THE WEST...OR FURTHER AWAY FROM THE MAIN
ISLANDS. AS A RESULT OF THE HIGH MOVING OFF...THE TRADES WILL EASE
OFF TO A MORE GENTLER LEVEL FRIDAY AND PERSIST INTO EARLY NEXT
WEEK. THE TRADE WIND SHOWERS MAY PICK UP A BIT COME THIS FRIDAY AS
THE TAIL END OF A SHEAR LINE SETTLES DOWN ON PRIMARILY KAUAI AND
OAHU. THE ADDED MOISTURE MAY BE ENHANCED BY AN MID TO UPPER LEVEL
TROUGH POSITIONED OVER OR NEAR KAUAI. IN THE MEAN TIME...RAINFALL
AMOUNTS WILL STAY LIGHT FOR THE SMALLER ISLANDS DESPITE THE ABUNDANT
AMOUNT OF STRATOCUMULUS CLOUDS UPWIND. THE WINDWARD BIG ISLAND WILL
BE THE PRIMARY RECIPIENT OF THESE SHOWERS.
ON THE GRIDS...THE SKY COVER...POPS...AND WEATHER FOR KAUAI AND
OAHU HAVE BEEN BEEFED UP FOR THIS FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH EARLY
SATURDAY.
THE WINDS ADVISORY FOR THE SUMMITS OF MAUNA KEA AND MAUNA LOA IS IN
EFFECT UNTIL 9AM THURSDAY. WIND SENSORS AT THE OBSERVATORIES
CONTINUES TO FLIRT AROUND THE 30 MILES AN HOUR THRESHOLD THIS
AFTERNOON.

A wild fire scorched 1000 acres of brush about 2.5 miles southeast of Kaena Point on the island of Oahu. The blaze had threatened an AT&T building and an Air Force satellite tracking station, but firefighters were able to contain the fire before any damage could occur. No serious injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
