.SHORT TERM...FOR THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA INTERIOR...A WEAK AREA OF
PVA IN THE LEFT-FRONT QUAD OF A 100 MPH JET WAS MOVING SE INTO
CENTRAL CA THIS EVE. NAM DOESNT SEEM TOO WELL INITIALIZED WITH THIS
FEATURE WITH REGARD TO PVA AND CLOUDS...HOWEVER IT DOES SHOW A WEAK
SHORTWAVE TROF AT H5. MID LEVEL CLOUD DECK IS SLIDING SE WITH THE
TROF...AND HAVE UPDATED TO PARTLY TO MOCLDY ACROSS THE AREA TONITE.
IN ADDITION...RADAR IS PICKING UP SOME LIGHT PRECIP...MOST OF WHICH
IS IN THE FORM OF VIRGA OVER THE SJV...AND POSSIBLY A FEW SPRINKLES
HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SIERRA. SO ADDED SOME SLIGHT CHANCE POPS
THERE. THE UPPER LEVEL TROF AXIS THAT HAS BEEN OVER CENTRAL CA THE
PAST COUPLE OF DAYS BRINGING RATHER PLEASANT TEMPS WILL MOVE OFF TO
THE EAST THURS AS A RIDGE ACROSS THE EAST PAC BEGINS TO NOSE IN OVER
THE WEST COAST. HEIGHTS AND 1000-500 MB THICKNESSES ARE FCST TO RISE
130+ METERS THURS AND FRI FOR THE START OF A ROBUST WARMING TREND.
IN FACT...BY SAT...GFS AND THE ECM RAISE H5 HEIGHTS TO 590+ AND
CURRENT FCST MAX TEMPS LIKELY NOT HOT ENOUGH. NEXT SHIFT WILL HAVE
TO SORT THAT OUT WITH THE NEIGHBORING WFO/S OVERNITE.
.LONG TERM...SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY...ONLY MINOR CHANGES
IN TEMPERATURE GRIDS AS MEDIUM RANGE MODELS CONTINUE TO TREND A
LOWERING OF THE HEIGHTS AND THICKNESS VALUES FROM THE WEEKEND
THROUGH MONDAY. WHILE 500MB HEIGHTS DROP ABOUT 70M THE
RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF A SHORT WAVE TROF ALONG THE CALIFORNIA COAST
LIKELY TO PUT A SURGE OF COOLER AIR INTO THE CENTRAL AND SOUTH SAN
JOAQUIN VALLEY BY THE FIRST OF THE WEEK. TEMPERATURES VARYING AROUND
NORMAL DURING THE PERIOD. DROPPING FROM ABOVE NORMAL INITIALLY
BUT THEN LOWERING SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL AT THE FIRST OF THE
WEEK...AND PUSHING BACK TO NEAR NORMAL AT THE END OF THE PERIOD.
SOME CLOUDINESS NOTED OVER THE SOUTH SIERRA NEVADA AND THE HIGHER
COAST RANGE MOUNTAINS IN THE AFTERNOONS AS LAPSE RATES DESTABILIZE
WITH STRONG SURFACE HEATING AND COOLER AIR ALOFT ASSOCIATED WITH THE
OFFSHORE TROF. STABILIZATION AT NIGHT WILL CLEAR SKIES ON A DIURNAL
CYCLE FOR THE PERIOD.

"Howling wind" late in the evening of the 14th just in the vicinity of California City in the Mojave Desert. Some areas of blowing dust making driving difficult due to restricted visibility as well as difficulty in handling vehicles because of the crosswind. The gusty wind appeared to be localized and emanating from the Tehachapi Pass.
