The remnants of Tropical Storm Tammy caused widespread heavy rainfall between 3 to 7 inches across the region. Numerous reports of flooded roads were received due to the prolonged rains. Localized areas received close to 12 inches of storm total rainfall, such as the automated gauge at Montebello in Nelson County Virginia, which measured 11.36 inches. Washington National Airport measured 7.34 inches of rain from this event. Sterling NWS measured 7.14 inches. Baltimore/Washington Airport measures 6.72 inches. Dulles Airport measured 6.62 inches. Charlottesville Airport measured 5.50 inches. Martinsburg Airport measured 2.91 inches. Widespread areal flooding resulted from slow water rises in urban and more rural areas as well. Intense localized heavy rain caused flooding near the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville. Flooded areas persistent into the early afternoon. A dozen roads were flooded and closed in the south and Middle River areas. A cooperative observer reported Tin Pot Run near Remington out of its banks and onto the road. The road was closed as a result. A dozen roads were flooded and closed in the Nokesville area. Portions of Fairfax County experienced flooding for a long period of time. Early in the morning, an off-duty NWS employee reported flooding in Chantilly on Pleasant Valley Road and along Braddock Road at Cub Run. Some debris was reported near Cub Run, which was out of its banks. Later in the morning, flooding was continuing at Browns Mill Road off Hunter Mill Road near the Vienna/Reston town line. Browns Mill Road was closed due to the high water. Then early in the afternoon, flooding reports continued to come in from the area, with US Route 1, near Newington, between Telegraph Road and the Fairfax County Parkway, flooded and closed due to high water. Several roads flooded due to high water including Route 1 and Mountain View Road.
