AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MEDFORD OR 300 PM PST SUN FEB 27 2005 .DISCUSSION... SOUTH WINDS HAVE BECOME BREEZY THIS AFTERNOON AHEAD OF A STRONG COLD FRONT THAT WILL SOON REACH THE COAST AND MOVE INLAND TONIGHT. WINDS ARE STRONGEST NEAR WEED AND IN THE ROGUE VALLEY WITH SPEEDS OF 25 MPH GUSTING TO 35 MPH AND SHOULD DIMINISH OVERNIGHT. PRECIPITATION WILL BE GREATEST ACROSS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA... ESPECIALLY SOUTH OF OUR REGION IN THE SIERRA NEVADA BUT WILL SEE SUFFICIENT PRECIPITATION FOR A SNOW ADVISORY TONIGHT FOR WESTERN AND SOUTH CENTRAL AND NORTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST SISKIYOU. THE SNOW LEVEL ABOVE 6000 FEET WILL FALL TO NEAR 4500 FEET FOR MOST OF OUR REGION WITH UP TO 2 OR 3 INCHES OF SNOW. HOWEVER...IN THE ADVISORY AREA OF SISKIYOU COUNTY HEAVIER PRECIP RATES WILL HELP DROP SNOW LEVELS TO NEAR 4000 FEET BY MONDAY MORNING. DOWNSLOPE SOUTH WINDS WILL HINDER PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS IN PORTIONS OF THE ROGUE...UMPQUA AND SHASTA VALLEY WHILE THE SAME FLOW WILL FAVORABLY ENHANCE PRECIP AMOUNTS NEAR MOUNT SHASTA. BEHIND THE COLD FRONT...THE AIR MASS WILL BE UNSTABLE SO THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE OF EVENING THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE COASTAL WATERS AND THE IMMEDIATE SHORELINE OF CURRY COUNTY.
