.SHORT TERM...
ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS FORMED BY LATE MORNING AND ARE
BECOMING MORE WIDESPREAD EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. CLUSTER OF WEAK VORT
MAXIMA EMBEDDED IN THE FLOW CURRENTLY MOVING INTO THE SRN SIERRA
WILL HELP FOCUS THE BEST CONVECTION OVER THE HIGHWAY 50 CORRIDOR.
LIGHT WESTERLY WINDS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON AS SAC-RNO
GRADIENT TURNS POSITIVE WHICH WILL BLOW ANY CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY OFF
THE CREST AND INCREASE CONVERGENCE OVER ZONES 001 AND 004 THIS
EVENING. MAIN THREAT THROUGH THIS EVENING WILL BE HEAVY RAINFALL
WITH PW VALUES CLOSE TO ONE INCH AND DEW POINTS AROUND 50 DEGREES
COMBINED WITH LIGHT STEERING WINDS OVER WRN NEVADA. THUNDER WILL
TAPER OFF AFTER DARK BUT EXPECT RAIN SHOWERS TO CONTINUE OVER ERN
ZONES UNTIL THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. BUMPED MIN TEMPS UP A BIT WITH
INCREASED CLOUD COVER EXPECTED OVERNIGHT.

TOMORROW LOOKS MUCH THE SAME AS TODAY WITH VERY LITTLE CHANGE IN THE
SYNOPTIC PATTERN. EXPECT ISOLATED WET THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP OVER
THE SRN ZONES BY NOON AND BECOMING MORE WIDESPREAD IN THE AFTERNOON
BEFORE THE WESTERLY WINDS KICK IN AND BLOW ACTIVITY BACK OVER THE
ERN ZONES. UPPER TROUGH APPROACHES THE PACNW SUNDAY INCREASING SWLY
FLOW OVER THE NRN ZONES AND DRYING THINGS OUT A LITTLE. TROUGH MOVES
ONSHORE MONDAY PUSHING ANY CONVECTION SOUTH AND EAST OF THE RENO
AREA. COOLER AIR ASSOCIATED WITH THE TROUGH WILL MODERATE TEMPS A
BIT ACROSS THE NRN HALF OF THE CWA STARTING MONDAY AND ALSO CREATE
MORE PRONOUNCED SWLY WINDS IN THE AFTERNOON WITH TIGHTER GRADIENT.
JORDAN

.LONG TERM...TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...
MEDIUM RANGE MODELS TRENDING TOWARDS THE UPPER RIDGE SITUATING
ITSELF FAR ENOUGH EAST SO THAT 500 MB MOISTURE REMAINS EAST OF THE
CWA AT THE START OF THE EXTENDED PERIOD. TOWARDS THE END OF THE
WEEK...THE HIGH IS PROGGED TO RETROGRADE WESTWARD BRINGING INCREASE
IN MOISTURE FLOW. THE TIMING OF THIS RETROGRADE HAS ALSO BEEN SLOWED
UP ON THE LAST COUPLE OF RUNS. I DECIDED TO LEAVE POP GRIDS AS THEY
ARE FOR NOW...BUT WE MAY HAVE TO DRY OUT ALL BUT SOUTHERN MINERAL
AND MONO COUNTIES FOR TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY IF THIS TREND CONTINUES.
IF THE RIDGE MOVES WESTWARD AS PLANNED...THUNDERSTORM CHANCES WILL
LOOK BETTER IN EASTERN COUNTIES THURSDAY...REACHING THE SIERRA
FRIDAY. MEX GUIDANCE DROPS HEIGHTS/TEMPS TOO LOW FOR TUESDAY AND
WEDNESDAY DUE TO WEAK TROF PASSAGE TO THE NORTH...BUT REBOUND
TOWARDS THE END OF THE WEEK. INHERITED GRIDS HAD A GOOD HANDLE ON
THIS AND NO CHANGES WERE MADE. SHULZ

&&

.AVIATION...
ISOLATED SIERRA THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH 01Z TODAY...WITH SCATTERED
STORMS EAST OF THE SIERRA THROUGH 03Z. MAIN THREAT WITH STORMS IS
HEAVY RAIN SQUALLS AND VARIABLE SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 35 KTS.
THUNDERSTORMS WILL REDEVELOP SATURDAY AROUND 20Z. SHULZ
