MODERATE TRADE WINDS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEK WITH SLIGHTLY WEAKER WINDS DURING THE WEEKEND. SHOWERS WILL FAVOR WINDWARD AND MAUKA AREAS AS WELL AS THE LEEWARD SLOPES OF THE BIG ISLAND EACH AFTERNOON. MODEST INSTABILITY WILL LINGER OVER THE ISLANDS LATE TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY...PERIODICALLY CAUSING SOME SHOWERS TO BECOME LOCALLY HEAVY AND ALLOWING SOME SHOWERS TO SPREAD TO LEEWARD AREAS. && .DISCUSSION... CONDITIONS ARE RATHER DRY THIS MORNING ACROSS THE STATE WITH SHOWERS LIMITED TO WINDWARD AREAS AND ABUNDANT LEEWARD SUNSHINE. THE CLOUD FIELD ABOUT 200 MILES EAST OF THE STATE IS BETTER ORGANIZED AND WILL BRING AN INCREASE IN CLOUDS AND SHOWERS FOR TONIGHT...MAINLY FOR WINDWARD AND MAUKA AREAS. THE ATMOSPHERE STABILIZED OVERNIGHT AS A WEAK BAND OF SUBSIDENCE ALOFT PASSED OVER THE STATE. AS A RESULT A WEAK INVERSION DEVELOPED NEAR 6000 FEET IN THE 12Z SOUNDINGS AND AS LOW AS 4000 FEET IN AN ACARS SOUNDING AT HNL THIS MORNING. THESE STABLE CONDITIONS SHOULD BE SHORT LIVED...AS AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH CENTERED ABOUT 375 MILES NORTHWEST OF KAUAI WEAKENS THE SUBSIDENCE INVERSION LATER TONIGHT. THE UPPER TROUGH WILL LINGER THROUGH SATURDAY...POSSIBLY ENHANCING SOME TRADE WIND SHOWERS AND SPREADING SOME SHOWERS TO LEEWARD AREAS. UPPER RIDGING IS EXPECTED TO SHIFT WEST OVER THE ISLANDS DURING THE WEEKEND...BRINGING MORE STABLE CONDITIONS THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK. MODERATE TRADE WINDS WILL PERSIST THROUGH THE WEEK. A WEAKNESS WILL DEVELOP IN THE RIDGE TO OUR NORTH ON FRIDAY...CAUSING A SLIGHT DECREASE IN WINDS FOR THE WEEKEND.
