Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms; that affected the North and South Hilo, and Puna Districts; caused ponding of roadways, and small stream and drainage ditch flooding. No serious injuries or property damage were reported.

A RIDGE TO THE NORTH OF THE STATE WILL CONTINUE INTO THE WEEKEND.
THIS WILL KEEP THE MODERATE TRADE WINDS BLOWING ACROSS THE ISLANDS.
SHOWERS WILL FAVOR WINDWARD AND MAUKA AREAS.

.DISCUSSION...
THE UPPER TROUGH OVER THE BIG ISLAND WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE OFF TO
THE EAST THIS EVENING AND SHOULD BE OUT OF THE AREA BY THURSDAY
MORNING. OTHERWISE A SURFACE RIDGE TO THE NORTH IS SUPPLYING
MODERATE TRADES ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF THE ISLAND CHAIN.

NOT MUCH CHANGE IN THE GRIDDED DATABASE THIS AFTERNOON. GFS
CONTINUES WITH THE MODERATE TRADE WIND PATTERN INTO THIS WEEKEND.
SHEARLINES WILL APPROACH THE ISLAND FROM THE NORTH...HOWEVER THE
MODELS THROUGH SUNDAY KEEP THEM FROM REACHING THE MAIN HAWAIIAN
ISLANDS. THIS SEEMS REASONABLE AND WILL HOLD COURSE WITH A STANDARD
MODERATE TRADE WIND FORECAST.

NO CHANGES MADE IN THE LONG TERM OF THE FORECAST TODAY. THE GFS
SOLUTION SUGGESTS THAT A SHEARLINE WILL PUSH THROUGH THE FORECAST
AREA LATE ON MONDAY...THEN THE SURFACE RIDGE MOVES DOWN OVER THE
STATE BY NEXT WEDNESDAY. GOING TO LET THE MODELS HAVE ANOTHER RUN
BEFORE MAKING ANY MAJOR CHANGES TO THE CURRENT EXTENDED.

OVER THE BIG ISLAND LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING THE
ATMOSPHERE REMAINS UNSTABLE. THE KONA SIDE STILL HAS THE POTENTIAL
FOR SOME VERY HEAVY DOWNPOURS IN ANY DEVELOPING THUNDERSTORMS.

SMALL TO MODERATE NORTHWEST SWELLS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE DAY
ON THURSDAY...WITH SURF HEIGHTS REMAINING BELOW ADVISORY LEVELS. A
LARGE NORTHWEST SWELL IS EXPECTED TO ARRIVE LATE THURSDAY. THE SURF
PRODUCED BY THIS SWELL WILL EXCEED ADVISORY LEVELS FROM LATE
THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY.

WILL KEEP THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH GOING THROUGH 8 PM HST FOR THE BIG
ISLAND. MAIN THREAT THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING WILL BE THE KONA SIDE
WITH THUNDERSTORMS. WINDWARD COAST WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE MODERATE
SHOWERS THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS WHICH COULD PRODUCE SOME LOCALIZED
FLOODING.
