HAWAIIAN ISLANDS FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HONOLULU HI 330 PM HST SAT FEB 7 2004 .SYNOPSIS... FOR THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS...A SERIES OF COLD FRONTS WILL THREATEN THE ISLANDS. THIS SERIES OF FRONTS WILL KEEP THE WINDS IN CHECK RESULTING IN LIGHT AND VARIABLE WINDS. SHOWERS WILL VARY BETWEEN ISOLATED AND SCATTERED DURING THIS STRETCH. && .DISCUSSION... THE GFS MODEL IS INDICATING A SERIES OF FRONTS TO INFLUENCE THE ISLANDS WEATHER DURING THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS. THE FIRST FRONT IS DUE TO SKIM KAUAI THIS MONDAY NIGHT. IT IS A WEAK ONE WITH NOT A WHOLE LOT OF MOISTURE AND UPPER LEVEL SUPPORT. THE SECOND ONE SKIMS KAUAI AND OAHU WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY...POSSIBLY CLOSE ENOUGH FOR SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS TO FOR ALL THE SMALLER ISLANDS. THE THIRD AND LAST FRONT IS EXPECTED TO STALL NEAR KAUAI SATURDAY. THE WINDS WILL BE FLIP FLOP A COUPLE OF TIMES BETWEEN LIGHT TRADES AND LIGHT SOUTHERLIES DURING THIS STRETCH. BUT DUE TO THE LACK OF STRENGTH...EXPECT AREAS OF LAND AND SEA BREEZES...AND THEREFORE DUIRNAL CLOUDINESS AND SHOWERS. BELIEVE THE GFS IS TOO DRY AND SO HAVE INJECTED AT LEAST ISOLATED SHOWERS INTO THE FORECAST FOR JUST ABOUT EVERY DAY...ESPECIALLY WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY. IN THE MEAN TIME..TODAY IS LIKE A REPEAT OF YESTERDAY WITH THE SMALLER ISLANDS HAVING CLOUDY SKIES OVER THE MOUNTAIN AND WINDWARD AREAS. SHOWERS HAVE DECREASED FROM SCATTERED TO ISOLATED HOWEVER. THERE IS ALSO GOOD AMOUNT OF BUILDUPS OVER THE SLOPES OF THE BIG ISLAND. THE AIR MASS WILL CONTINUE TO STABILIZE ALTHO SOMEWHAT SLOWER OVER THE BIG ISLAND. SO SCATTERED SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE TO PEPPER THE WINDWARD SIDE INTO SUNDAY WITH FEWER SHOWERS THEREAFTER. THE KONA SIDE WILL LIKELY SEE ONE MORE ACTIVE AFTERNOON. && .MARINE... THE AFTERNOON SURF REPORTS FROM THE BIG ISLAND HAVE THE READINGS DOWN FROM THIS MORNING. THEREFORE THE HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR THE EAST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND WILL BE CANCELED SHORTLY. && .HFO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
