IR SATL/SFC OBS SHOW GOOD MOISTURE RETURN ACROSS ERN ZNS THIS MORNING
WITH LATEST VIS ALREADY SHOWING CU DEVELOPMENT IN NRN BASIN.
EXPECT SHARP DRYLINE TO DEVELOP THIS AFTN ACROSS CNTRL ZNS. STEEP
LAPSE RATES AND LIFT ASSCD WITH APPROACHING UPPER TROUGH WILL HELP
CONVECTION TO DEVELOP RAPIDLY ALONG DRYLINE WHERE STRONG SFC HEATING
WILL INCREASE CAPES. MAY EVEN SEE SOME HIGH BASED CONVECTION FURTHER
W IN DAVIS MTNS/UPPER TRANS PECOS. GOOD DEEP LAYER SHEAR OF OVER 50KT
EXPECTED TO ACCOMPANY SUBTROPICAL JET SO SUPERCELLS WILL BE LIKELY.
BEST TORNADO THREAT SHOULD BE FURTHER NE WHERE BEST HELICITY WILL BE
VCNTY TRIPLE POINT HOWEVER VERY LARGE HAIL NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION
GIVEN LOW FREEZING LEVEL.
THEREFORE HAVE UPDATED ZNS TO INCLUDE FIRST PERIOD POPS ALL BUT FAR
WRN ZNS. ALSO INCREASED SECOND PERIOD POPS IN PB/NE ZNS AND LOWER
TRANS PECOS.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIDLAND/ODESSA TX
1000 AM CST SAT APR 5 2003
THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR WEST TEXAS AND SOUTHEASTERN
NEW MEXICO.
.DAY ONE...TODAY
THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND
EVENING...GENERALLY EAST OF A LAMESA TO SANDERSON LINE. ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP ALONG A SHARP DRYLINE THIS AFTERNOON
ACROSS THE EASTERN PERMIAN BASIN AND LOWER TRANS PECOS THEN QUICKLY
MOVE NORTHEAST. A FEW STORMS COULD BECOME SEVERE WITH DAMAGING WINDS
AND LARGE HAIL.
IN ADDITION...VERY LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES...SUSTAINED WINDS NEAR OR
ABOVE 20 MPH...AND HIGH FIRE DANGER...WILL COMBINE TO PRODUCE
FAVORABLE CONDITIONS FOR RAPID FIRE GROWTH AND SPREAD ACROSS THE
GUADALUPE AND DAVIS MOUNTAINS...THE SOUTHEAST PLAINS OF NEW
MEXICO...AND THE UPPER TRANS PECOS REGION OF WEST TEXAS THIS
AFTERNOON.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY
ONCE AGAIN ON SUNDAY...VERY LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES AND STRONG
WESTERLY WINDS WILL COMBINE TO PRODUCE CONDITIONS FAVORABLE FOR
RAPID FIRE GROWTH AND SPREAD ACROSS THE GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS.
BEYOND SUNDAY THE PROBABILITY FOR WIDESPREAD HAZARDOUS WEATHER IS
LOW.
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...
LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES...EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS AND STORM
SPOTTER GROUPS ACROSS THE EXTREME EASTERN PERMIAN BASIN AND
WESTERN LOW ROLLING PLAINS SHOULD MONITOR THIS SITUATION AND TAKE
APPROPRIATE ACTION SHOULD SEVERE WEATHER THREATEN YOUR AREA THIS
AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
TECHNICAL DISCUSSION...
SATL IMAGERY/SFC OBS INDICATE MOISTURE RETURNING ACROSS LOWER TRANS
PECOS/ERN PB THIS MORNING. RUC MODEL LOOKS TO HAVE BETTER HANDLE ON
DRYLINE THIS AFTN KEEPING IT FURTHER W THAN OPERATIONAL ETA WITH SFC
LOW VCNTY KFST. PLENTY OF SYNOPTIC LIFT/INSTABILITY THIS AFTN SHOULD
IGNITE CONVECTION ALONG VERY SHARP DRYLINE. FAVORABLE SHEAR
PARAMETERS EXIST FOR SUPERCELLS GIVEN FCST 100KT SUBTROPICAL JET.
