A strong storm system moved across the Northern Plains during the day, bringing heavy rains and strong winds to much of northwest and west central South Dakota. Northwest winds increased to 30 to 45 mph late in the morning and continued through the afternoon. Wind gusts to near 60 mph were recorded across areas from Faith to Philip during the late afternoon hours.
