SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA/NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HASTINGS NE
306 PM CDT WED JUL 16 2003

CHANCES FOR PRECIP TONIGHT...TOMORROW NIGHT AND AGAIN ON SUNDAY AND
THEN TEMPS ARE CONCERNS FOR THIS FORECAST PACKAGE.

WEAK WAVES COMING OVER RIDGE WILL BRING CHANCES FOR PRECIP THROUGH
THE WEEKEND. FIRST WILL BE TONIGHT. EXPECT A FEW STORM TO DEVELOP
TO THE NORTH...THEN MOVE TO THE SOUTHEAST. BEST CHANCES WILL BE IN
THE NORTH AND EASTERN SECTIONS. OTHERWISE TONIGHT WILL BE CLEAR TO
PARTLY CLOUDY.

MODELS SOMEWHAT HAVING HARD TIME PICKING OUT WHERE SURFACE
LOW/BOUNDARY TO SET UP. EXPECT IT TO SET UP IN THE AREA TOMORROW BUT
WITH GOOD CAPPING IN PLACE...CHANCES FOR STORMS WILL HOLD OFF UNTIL
EVENING AND OVERNIGHT. ANOTHER HOT DAY EXPECTED THURSDAY WITH TEMPS
IN THE UPPER 90S TO 103.

UPPER RIDGE HOLDS TIGHT UNTIL NEXT SIGNIFICANT WAVE MOVES INTO
CENTRAL CANADA DURING THE WEEKEND. THIS ALLOWS RIDGE TO SLIDE BACK
TO THE WEST AND THE WAVE WILL HEAD SOUTHEAST. THIS WILL BRING
ANOTHER SMALL CHANCE FOR STORMS TO THE AREA ON SATURDAY
NIGHT AND SUNDAY.

WITH UPPER RIDGE OVER THE AREA TEMPS TO REMAIN WARM TO HOT. SOME
COOLING IN THE NORTHEASTERN ZONES AS SURFACE BOUNDARY SETS UP. BUT
TEMPS TO STILL BE IN THE UPPER 80S TO LOWER 90S IN THAT AREA.
WITH READINGS FROM 95 TO 100 CONTINUING TO THE SOUTH. DRY
CONDITIONS TO PREVAIL FOR THE START OF THE WEEK.

.GID...NONE.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HASTINGS NE
1107 AM CDT WED JUL 16 2003

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA AND
PARTS OF NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT

ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE DURING THE AFTERNOON ACROSS
SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA AND NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS. SLIGHT CHANCES FOR
THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE THIS EVENING MAINLY NORTH OF INTERSTATE 80...
AND OVERNIGHT EAST OF HIGHWAY 281. AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE
MOVING EAST ACROSS NEBRASKA WILL CAUSE THE STORMS TO DEVELOP. THE
STORMS WILL MOVE TO THE EAST SOUTHEAST...AND A FEW STORMS MAY
PRODUCE SMALL HAIL AND GUSTY WINDS...BUT SEVERE WEATHER IS NOT
EXPECTED AT THIS TIME.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY

ALTHOUGH AN OVERALL HOT AND DRY PATTERN CONTINUES THROUGH THE WEEK...
INTERMITTENT SMALL CHANCES FOR THUNDERSTORMS REMAIN POSSIBLE.
THE WEATHER PATTERN WILL BECOME MORE ACTIVE OVER THE WEEKEND AS THE
UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE SHIFTS TO THE WEST. THIS WILL
ALLOW FOR A BRIEF REPRIEVE FROM THE HEAT...AND SLIGHTLY INCREASED
CHANCES FOR THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY. A FEW STORMS COULD BE STRONG OR
SEVERE THIS WEEKEND...ALTHOUGH WIDESPREAD SEVERE WEATHER IS NOT
EXPECTED AT THIS TIME. DRY WEATHER IS FORECAST EARLY NEXT WEEK.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

SPOTTER ACTIVATION WILL NOT BE NEEDED THIS AFTERNOON OR TONIGHT.
