AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TWIN CITIES/CHANHASSEN MN 300 PM CDT SAT JUL 27 2002 A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS IS MOVING ACROSS THE NRN PORTION OF THE FORECAST AREA IN A REGION OF ISENTROPIC LIFT AHEAD OF A FAIRLY STRONG WAVE TROUGH...NOW IN WRN MN. THE MAIN QUESTION TONIGHT IS THE TIMING OF THE THUNDERSTORMS IN ERN MN AND WRN WI. BASED OF THE FORECAST MOVEMENT OF THE TROUGH MOST ACTIVITY SHOULD END THIS EVENING. SHORT WAVE RIDGING FOLLOWS AND TONIGHT SHOULD BE CLEAR TO PARTLY CLOUDY. THE LOW LEVEL JET AND MCS POTENTIAL SHOULD DEVELOP SOUTH AND EAST OF THE AREA BUT THERE IS ENOUGH INSTABILITY IN THE FAR SOUTH CENTRAL AREA TO MENTION STORMS THIS EVENING. ON SUNDAY ANOTHER SHORT WAVE TROUGH MOVES THROUGH THE WESTERLIES...THE MODELS HAVE BEEN INCONSISTENT IN THE TIMING OF THIS WAVE...WITH THE SCENARIO NOW LOOKING LIKE AFTERNOON CONVECTION IN WRN MN AND THEN PUSHING ACROSS THE AREA SUNDAY NIGHT. THE INSTABILITY AND LOW LEVEL JET INDICATES AN MCS IN SE MN/WRN WI AND SEWRD SUNDAY NIGHT. A SERIES OF WAVES IN THE WESTERLYS THROUGH NEXT WEEK WITH THE BEST CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. .MSP...NONE. SCOTT
