AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORMAN OK
300 PM CDT SUN JUL 7 2002

WIDELY SCATTERED CONVECTION DEVELOPING ONCE AGAIN ACROSS CENTRAL AND
EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE FORECAST AREA...SIMILAR TO YESTERDAY.
HOWEVER...MAIN FOCUS PRECIPITATION WILL BE ACROSS EXTREME SOUTHWEST
OKLAHOMA AND WESTERN NORTH TEXAS ZONES. MADE SEVERAL CALLS TO
PORTIONS OF WESTERN NORTH TEXAS TODAY...WHERE RADAR PRECIP ESTIMATES
WERE 2 TO 4 INCHES. THIS YIELDED NO REPORTS OF SIG WATER PROBLEMS.
WITH HEAVIEST RAINFALL EXPECTED SOUTH AND WEST OF OUR FORECAST AREA
TONIGHT...AM NOT PLANNING TO ISSUE FLASH FLOOD WATCH. EVENING SHIFT
WILL MONITOR CLOSELY.

A FEW OF THE SHORT TERM MODELS TRY TO LATCH ONTO A WEAK EASTERLY
WAVE ACROSS MS/LA...SIMILAR TO WHAT IS MOVING WWD ACROSS CENTRAL
OKLAHOMA THIS AFTERNOON. AS IS TYPICALLY THE CASE...CONVECTION IS
PROGD TO DEVELOP TONIGHT AND MONDAY ON UPSTREAM-SIDES OF THESE
FEATURES. BASED ON RADAR/SATELLITE TRENDS...WITH UNCAPPED AND MOIST
ATMOSPHERE OVER THE REGION...IT IS POSSIBLE THAT ETA/M-ETA MAY BE ON
TO SOMETHING. WILL WAIT UNTIL LAST MINUTE TO ADD POPS ACROSS
CENTRAL-SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA ZONES FOR LATE TONIGHT AND MONDAY.

TREND OF BUILDING WESTERN RIDGE AND EASTERN TROUGH CONTINUES TO
SUPPORT CURRENT EXTENDED FORECAST...WITH AOB TEMPS AND A CHANCE OF
PRECIP BEGINNING AROUND MID-WEEK. POPS WILL BE RIDING PRIMARILY ON A
WEAK FRONTAL BOUNDARY AS A FOCUS MID-LATE WEEK. AVN GRADUALLY WANTS
TO BUILD WESTER RIDGE OVER AREA...WHICH WOULD ALLOW FOR
HIGHER/CLOSER TO CLIMATOLOGY TEMPERATURE READINGS NEXT WEEKEND.
