NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX

CURRENT WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SUGGESTS THAT THE MID/UPPER LOW OVER
SOUTH TEXAS MAY BE DRIFTING SOUTHWEST AT THIS TIME. THIS...COUPLED
WITH LACK OF DIVERGENCE AT 500/250 MB...LOWER 700 MB DEWPOINTS...AND
ONLY WEAK ISENTROPIC LIFT...HAVE ALL LED TO LESS COVERAGE OF
SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS NORTH TEXAS TODAY...SO FAR. HOWEVER
...LATEST REFLECTIVITY TRENDS FROM KFWS SHOW THUNDERSTORMS
INCREASING IN AREAS SOUTHEAST OF THE METROPLEX. OUTFLOW BOUNDARIES
FROM THIS CONVECTION WILL LIKELY CONTINUE TO GENERATE NEW
CELLS...GIVEN WEAK ENVIRONMENTAL SHEAR. WILL MAINTAIN FLOOD WATCH
OVERNIGHT...AS SATURATED SOIL WILL LIKELY NOT WITHSTAND ADDITIONAL
HEAVY RAINFALL. FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SHORT TERM...WILL KEEP
SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH WEDNESDAY...AS THERE
WILL BE AMPLE INSTABILITY AND WEAK FORCING ASSOCIATED WITH THE
DEPARTING UPPER LOW. MODEL GUIDANCE REMAINS CONSISTENT ON MID LEVEL
VORT...MOVING INTO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA...WEAKENING SOUTHWEST U.S.
RIDGE SUFFICIENTLY TO ALLOW FOR A CONTINUED WESTWARD MOTION OF THE
TEXAS UPPER LOW. EXPECT PRECIP TO GRADUALLY DIMINISH ACROSS THE AREA
ON WEDNESDAY/WEDNESDAY NIGHT...WITH DRY AND WARMER CONDITIONS
EXPECTED FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY.

A CONTINUED PERIOD OF WARM AND DRY WEATHER IS ANTICIPATED IN THE
EXTENDED PERIODS. THE 02/00Z MRF HAS MAINTAINED CONTINUITY ON
DEVELOPING A WEST-TO-EAST ORIENTED RIDGE AXIS ACROSS THE CENTRAL
PLAINS THROUGH NEXT WEEK. THIS ORIENTATION WOULD LEAVE NORTH TEXAS
SUSCEPTIBLE TO CLOUDS AND SOME PRECIP ASSOCIATED WITH ANY EASTERLY
WAVES IN THE FLOW ALOFT. HOWEVER...WILL CONTINUE TO HOLD OFF ON ANY
MENTION OF PRECIP...AND COVER THE SITUATION WITH INCREASED CLOUD
COVER AND TEMPERATURES LOWER THAN GUIDANCE.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR NORTH TEXAS
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX
405 PM CDT TUE JUL 2 2002

A FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT ACROSS ALL OF NORTH TEXAS TONIGHT. AN
UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY OVER
CENTRAL TEXAS TONIGHT. ENERGY FROM THIS SYSTEM...COUPLED WITH
ABUNDANT LOW AND MID LEVEL MOISTURE...WILL PRODUCE SCATTERED TO
NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. RAINFALL AMOUNTS BETWEEN 1 AND 3
INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH ISOLATED AMOUNTS BETWEEN 3 AND 6 INCHES.
SINCE THE GROUND IN SATURATED IN MANY LOCATIONS... ADDITIONAL HEAVY
RAINFALL COULD QUICKLY PRODUCE FLASH FLOODING...ESPECIALLY IN LOW
SPOTS...CREEKS...AND STREAMS. ALONG WITH THE HEAVY RAIN THREAT...
STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING AND
WIND GUSTS TO 40 MPH.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT SINCE IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODING. USE CAUTION IN AND AROUND STREAMS...CREEKS OR
DRAINAGE DITCHES. TAKE THE SHORTEST PATH TO REACH HIGHER GROUND...BUT
DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH RISING WATER.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND OTHER LOCAL MEDIA FOR FURTHER
DETAILS OR UPDATES ON THIS FLOODING THREAT.
